Hispanic Types of Noses
General features
The term "Hispanic", used interchangeably with "Latino", typically refers to persons of a Spanish culture or origin including persons from Portugal, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South America, Central America and Cuba.
Generally, Hispanic skin is thick with abundant sebaceous glands, resulting in sweat pores on the surface. You will normally find the nose having a broad nasal bridge and wide bulbous drooping tip. A dorsal hump is also quite usual. Emilio Estevez has the classic slumped tip.
Rhinoplasty
When opting for surgery, people with this type of nose ask for the end to be elevated and narrowed and removal of the nasal bump.
Whatever the general features of an ethnic group are, surgery always needs to be assessed and performed on a case by case basis. Every person is unique with their own special characteristics and qualities.
Reshaping the tip
The surgeon can give the point nice contours and elevation by opening the nose and inserting cartilage into the required area. The extra tissue is grafted from other parts of the body such as the cartilage around the septum.
Removing dorsal hump
This can be achieved by removing cartilage and if required small amounts of bone. Implants may be used if extra filling is required for other parts of the dorsum to create a flowing look.
Narrowing the base
Flared nostrils make the nose look wide and flat so it's quite usual to have this area narrowed. The surgeon will need to make incisions at the base of each nostril and sometimes in the columella to slim out the nose. The columella is the structure between the two nostrils made up of the septum and the lower lateral cartilages.
